Make Websites Easier to Read in Immersive Reader in Windows 11

Sometimes websites can be very difficult to read.  They can be plastered with adverts, links to other articles and pages, or have video auto-playing when all you want to do is read the contents of an article.  Microsoft’s Edge browser in Windows 11 comes with a handy feature that blocks out all of this unwanted noise, so that you can get on with reading just the content you went to the page to read.

Immersive Reader is activated by clicking the book icon to the right of the browser address bar.  This, while not available for every website, immediately switches the view to a more legible version.

As you can see from the images above and below, the Immersive Reader makes a huge difference when reading articles.  You can customise the way it appears too.  Click the Text preferences link at the top of the page and you can make the text smaller or larger, change the text font, and also change the background colour of the page, all of which can make the page much more legible.

One of the best things about Immersive Reader is that it can also bypass some, but not all, website paywalls.  If you are visiting a website that requires you pay a subscription to read its content, try viewing the article you want to read in the Immersive Reader.

We can see from these two images, above and below, that the Immersive Reader has successfully bypassed the paywall, allowing undisturbed reading of the article beneath.
